직접 대면하고 대화하는 것보다 전화로 이야기하는 것이 더 어렵다고 하시는 분들이 많습니다. 연결 상태에 따라 정확하게 안 들리기도 하고, 표정이나 몸짓을 같이 읽지 못해서겠죠. 오늘은 전화 영어를 배워봅시다.


1. 실제 대화 연습을 해봅시다

A: Hello, Gladstone Hotel. Trudy speaking. How can I help you? 안녕하세요. 글래드스톤 호텔 Trudy입니다. 무엇을 도와드릴까요?


B: Hello. Could I speak to Mr Bunn, please? 여보세요, Bunn씨 좀 부탁드립니다.

A: Who’s calling, please? 전화 거신 분은 누구십니까?

B: It’s Mr Abernathy, from May Flowers. May Flower의 Abernathy입니다.

A: Please hold on a moment. I’ll put you through... I’m afraid Mr Bunn is not available. He’s in a meeting until 3 o’clock. 잠시만 기다려주세요. 연결해 드릴게요…, 죄송합니다만 Bunn씨는 지금 연결이 안됩니다. 3시까지 회의 중이십니다.

B: Sorry, can you speak up, please? I can’t hear you very well. 소리를 조금 높여 주시겠어요? 잘 안 들립니다.

A: Yes, Mr Bunn is in a meeting until 3 o’clock. 네, Bunn 씨는 3시까지 회의 중이십니다.

B: I see. I’d like to leave a message, please. 네 알겠습니다. 메시지 좀 남기겠습니다.

A: All right.  네 

B: I need to check the order numbers on the flowers he asked for. I have 2-4-5-6-9-2 and I want to know if that’s correct. Could he email me to confirm? Would you like me to say that again? 그분의 꽃주문 번호245692가 맞는지 확인하고 싶습니다. 제게 이메일로 답변 주시기 바랍니다. 다시 불러드릴까요?

A: Yes, please, just the order number. 네 주문 번호만


B: It’s 2-4-5-6-9-2.  2 4 5 6 92 입니다.

A: Thank you. I’ll make sure he gets the message. 감사합니다. 메시지 확실하게 전달해 드릴게요

B: Thanks, good-bye. 감사합니다.

A: Good-bye. 안녕히 계세요


2. Read the sentences about phone calls. Match the meanings to the phrasal verbs in bold. 

    전화 통화에 대한 문장을 읽고 맞는 동사구를 찾아보세요.


<Group 1>

1. I’m in a train station and it’s very noisy. I can’t hear you very well. Can you speak up? 지금 기차 안에 있어서 너무 시끄러워요. 잘 안 들리는데 크게 말해 주시겠어요?

4. If you get a wrong number, just say you’re sorry and hang up.
